How does BorderXpress™ work?
BorderXpress™is fully tailored to each airport’s and immigration authority’s unique needs and regulatory environment.
BorderXpress™uses biometric-enabled kiosks as part of an efficient two-step process that allows travellers to complete the administrative requirements of border control themselves. The information is sent, fully encrypted with data protection, to a border agency—this allows the traveller’s identity to be verified and admissibility confirmed in real time. The traveller is then issued a token and directed to a border officer or an e-gate to complete the journey into or out of the country.

BorderXpress EU: Experience Matters, Delivering Smart Solutions
Innovative Travel Solutions is the only provider of kiosk-based border control solutions in the EU. Our customers include Hermes Airports, the operator of Larnaka and Pafos Airports in Cyprus and ISAVIA, the national airport and air navigation service provider of Iceland.
Larnaka Airport currently operates 44 BorderXpress kiosks and Pafos Airport currently operates 30 kiosks. In the first 12 months of operation, the kiosks processed more than five million passengers and both airports have significantly reduced passenger processing times, from between 50 to 80 seconds down to 15 to 30 seconds, essentially eliminating queues, contributing to the overall efficiency at border control areas. In preparation for the impending EU Entry-Exit System, ISAVIA partnered with Innovative Travel Solutions to launch a six-month pilot program at Keflavík International Airport to simulate the new immigration requirements for all Third Country Nationals entering into Iceland. The pilot will yield valuable information for ISAVIA on how to effectively plan for and implement the new regulations. U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) selected Innovative Travel Solutions to deliver its first Automated Passport Control (APC) solution in 2013. Initially available at Vancouver International Airport’s pre-clearance facility, our BorderXpress APC solution quickly expanded and is now in use at 35 major airports across the United States and CBP pre-clearance and US territory airports in Canada, the Caribbean and the Pacific, making ITS the largest and most experienced provider in the industry.
BorderXpress APC expedites the entry process for U.S. citizens, U.S. legal permanent residents, Canadian citizens, travellers utilizing ESTA (Visa Waiver Program) and travelers entering with a visa. Travellers use biometric-enabled kiosks to respond to CBP inspection questions and submit biographic information. BorderXpress APC is a free service, does not require pre-registration or membership, and maintains the highest levels of protection when it comes to the handling of personal data or information. Travellers using BorderXpress APC experience shorter wait times, less congestion and faster processing.
The success of BorderXpress APC at airports has allowed for other industries to take advantage of the program’s benefits. In 2015, BorderXpress APC kiosks were implemented at Canada Place cruise terminal at Port Metro Vancouver, becoming the world’s first self-service border control solution available at a seaport.
